Study Reveals Average Penis Size By State And Who's Likely To Stretch The Truth
Is your state more likely than others to tell some phallic fibs?
Researchers recently carried out a survey to figure out which states in the US have men most likely to stretch the truth about their penis size. Alongside that, they also dug into just how big people are claiming to be when asked.
Back in 2020, an earlier study pulled together multiple previous reports to try and pin down the average penis size across the population.
That research, published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, concluded that the average erect penis length fell somewhere between 5.1 and 5.5 inches.
Fast forward three years, and Bespoke Surgical decided it was time to conduct their own national survey to get an updated picture of just how much "manhood" the USA really has.
The New York-based company reached out to a little over 1,300 men, asking them two very straightforward questions.
The first question was: “What is your actual penis length at full erection?” and the second: “What length do you say your penis is at full erection when asked by potential partners, dates, or significant others?”
Bespoke Surgical emphasized that the goal of the study wasn’t to shame anyone or single out certain states. Instead, the aim was to better understand penis size across the country—and to find out where exaggeration was most common.
According to what the participants reported, penis length averages did vary quite a bit depending on the state.
At the bottom of the list was Delaware, where men reported an average erect length of 5.22 inches. Not far behind were New Mexico with 5.36 inches and Maryland with 5.5 inches.
On the other side of the spectrum, five states stood out with much higher reported lengths. These included Alabama, which topped the list at 7.44 inches, followed by Louisiana with 7.15 inches, West Virginia at 7 inches, Vermont close behind at 6.98 inches, and Utah at 6.97 inches.
Altogether, Bespoke Surgical said the national self-reported average came out to 6.41 inches. That’s quite a bit more than the 2020 study, showing a significant increase when people are self-reporting their own stats.
But the bigger question was: which states are most likely to bend the truth a little when it comes to discussing their size with romantic interests?
Well, according to the data, men from Louisiana are the most likely to boost their numbers.
Bespoke Surgical revealed that Louisiana not only had the highest average exaggerated length—at a claimed 8.07 inches—but also one of the largest gaps between actual and reported size, coming in at 0.92 inches of difference.
Surprisingly, even though Delaware men had the smallest self-reported average, they still exaggerated by a pretty big margin—about 1.30 inches. Georgia’s men weren’t too far off either, adding around 0.66 inches on average.
Now for the more personal stuff—how do men generally respond when someone asks them about size in a dating or relationship context?
The survey showed that about 26 percent of men exaggerated their size by nearly an inch, averaging around 0.98 inches more than the truth.
Interestingly, not everyone was inflating the truth. Around 12 percent of men actually downplayed their size by about 1.03 inches, while 62 percent kept it completely real and shared their actual length.
Looks like honesty really is the best policy—unless you're from Louisiana, maybe!
